Light vs. Dark
This week we took a group of young adults to the village. The day we arrived we decided to visit the village palace which was in the highest part of the village, with several stone staircases leading up to it. After reaching the top and admiring the view of the Himalayas, we started making our way down the steps once again. There we noticed drops of blood, sometimes just a few drops, sometimes a pile of fresh blood… we saw it the whole way down and it was quite alarming to me, I didn’t see anyone injured nearby and was confused what we had come across. I asked my husband and he answered “it’s an animal sacrifice” and one of the members of our team pointed to a baby buffalo in the distance that was being prepared for a sacrifice.
I then remembered this is a “high place” … a battlefield of dark and light…
We came back down to where we would stay the night and the sunset was illuminating the mountain tops, making them bright pink against the blue sky. The rice fields below were golden, it was a stunning view.
I was now soaking in breathtaking beauty, experiencing peace and joy.
These stark contrasts are our everyday reality. There is spiritual darkness and light, fighting everyday. Will we be those people who are aware and recognize the authority we have to bring light to this world? Through kind & encouraging words, through forgiving those who have hurt us, through humble hearts and a genuine love for others that puts them above ourselves and doesn’t always assume we are in the right.
Will we stay alert to what is happening around us and will we be those people who fight darkness with light…
